A Coastal Art & Landscape Experience
Homer, Alaska
Slow Down, Notice More, and Connect

What We Do
Harris Intertidal "Brushes In The Wild"
Our small-group experiences combine scenic travel, place-based storytelling, and simple creative prompts designed for all skill levels. Our tours invite guests to slow down, notice more, and connect deeply with place.

"The Art Of Noticing"
This is not an art class.
No experience required.
At each stop, you’ll be guided to slow down, notice light, weather, and form — and respond with simple drawing, painting or cell phone photography exercises designed for all skill levels.
This experience responds directly to the conditions of the day. Rather than waiting for perfect weather, we work with what’s happening — fog, wind, or rain — and use it as the subject.
In a small group, you’ll explore quiet locations, pause to create simple sketches, paintings or photos inspired by the place and conditions of the day. All materials are provided, no art experience is required, and the pace is calm, flexible, shaped by weather, light, and views.

Sketch your journey

Morning
We set out with warm coffee or tea, travel to nearby locations, and take time to observe, sketch, and paint as the day slowly opens. These departures favor gentle pacing, and a reflective start to the day.

Evening
We explore locations during the evening shift of color, pausing to sketch and paint as shadows lengthen and the landscape changes. These departures emphasize atmosphere, reflection, and the subtle transition of light.

Your Guide

I am Janel Harris, a passionate educator and guide dedicated to helping others participate in art and nature.
With decades of experience navigating the rugged coastlines of Alaska and guiding marine expeditions across the globe, I have spent my life at the edge of the wild.
I specialize in creating inclusive, supportive environments where curiosity leads the way. I view creating as a form of meditation.
I don't consider myself an artist, however, I enjoy oil painting, taking photos and drawing to experience the wonders that surround us.
I look forward to sharing some time with you!
